It was one of the two sites in the southern states for this multi-centric project.
Yenepoya also partnered with UNICEF in conducting a national level ‘Nutrition Assessment Techniques’ course which had experts from University of Tampere, National Institute of Health and Welfare, Helsinki, St John’s Research Institute, NCEARD, NIN as teaching faculty. It attracted participants from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Maharashtra and New Delhi.

NIRT

NIRT (1)
Center for Nutrition Study has partnered with National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis (NIRT) for the RATIONS (Reducing Activation of Tuberculosis by Improvement Of Nutritional Status) study.
RATIONS Trial: A cluster randomized trial of nutritional support (food rations) to reduce TB incidence in household contacts of patients with microbiologically confirmed PTB in communities with a high prevalence of undernutrition. It is supported by the Indian Council of Medical Research. It is led by the Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) with faculty from Center for Nutrition Studies and in collaboration with National Institute of Research in Tuberculosis (NIRT), Chennai, National Institute of Nutrition (NIN), Hyderabad and State TB Cell, Jharkhand and Central TB Division. It is being conducted in 4 districts of Jharkhand with 2800 patients and their household contact.
It is a clinical trial, registered with the Clinical Trial Registry – India (CTRI/2019/08/020490)(http://ctri.nic.in/Clinicaltrials/showallp.php?mid1=34822&EncHid=&userName=Anurag) to study the effect of food rations on the occurrence of new cases of tuberculosis in household contacts of patients suffering from TB. The intervention is dry food rations and micronutrients to patients with microbiologically confirmed pulmonary TB in control as well as intervention arm. And in the intervention arm, the household contacts also get the dry food rations during the treatment period of the index case. The primary outcome that will be studied is the number of new cases of TB that occur in the household contacts during a two year follow-up period. It is first of its kind project with largest sample size in the field of TB and Nutrition.

NIN

NIN
Center for Nutrition Study has partnered with National Institute for Nutrition (NIN) for the National Workshop for Development of Guidance for Nutrition, Care and Support for patients with Tuberculosis, the multicentric project for piloting the maternal nutrition algorithm for Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA: http://nceard.roshni-cwcsa.co.in/ToolkitFrame.aspx?flag=9) and the RATIONS (Reducing Activation of Tuberculosis by Improvement Of Nutritional Status) study.

NCEARD

The National Centre of Excellence and Advanced Research on Diets (NCEARD) established in 2018 within the Department of Food and Nutrition at Lady Irwin College, New Delhi with start up support from UNICEF is a technical assistance resource centre to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India on research and policy formulation for women’s nutrition. Center for Nutrition Studies has partnered with NCEARD during the development of maternal nutrition toolkit (http://nceard.roshni-cwcsa.co.in/ToolkitFrame.aspx?flag=9).
With the financial support from UNICEF, Center for Nutrition along with Department of Community Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Yenepoya Medical College, and Yenepoya Nursing
College, collaborated with NCEARD in implementation of maternal nutrition algorithm for the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA). It was one of the two sites in the southern states for this multi-centric project.

Central TB Division and NTEP

Undernutrition in TB patients is now considered a medical condition like co-existing diabetes, or HIV infection. WHO recommends that nutritional assessment, counselling and support should be considered an integral part of TB care. The Center for Nutrition Studies along with experts from the Central TB Division, National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis, St John’s Research Institute, National Institute of Nutrition, and stake holders from State TB Cell across India developed a Guidance Document on Nutrition Care and Support for patients with tuberculosis (https://tbcindia.gov.in/index1.php?lang=1&level=2&sublinkid=4730&lid=3278).
The program also endorses and recommends the use of the N-TB app for nutrition assessment and care for the primary care providers with training slide deck available at the Central TB Division Website (Link: https://tbcindia.gov.in/showfile.php?lid=3348)
